Things to Consider

The trick to art is involvement and detachment. Determination and surrender.

Knowing what’s useful and useless.
Taking the work seriously but not yourself.
Knowing the business of art and the art of business as it applies to your situation.
Having a goal and knowing how to let go of it.
Know the rules and where to break them.
Understand that advice can be as detrimental as insult.
Test yourself and your audience

Find the joy of the work for you so it sustains you through good times and bad. Protect the environment of openness that you are working on.

Get the balance between art and artist right. Talk about the work more than yourself.

Work for free only when you gain from it. Exposure is for photographs and political scandals. If you want to make your purpose pay, you have to name a price.
